Clint's Weekly Update 4-2-15

Experiments are getting under way for the science fair projects.  Two students in one group already completed their experiments and got very different results.  The conversation that will follow is going to very interesting and insightful into the procedures that were used.  This type of conversation is invaluable to budding scientists, because it allows students to continue the process of inquiry.

Registration for the UO Science and Invention Fair 2015

I encourage all students coordinating a science fair project to register for the science fair as soon as possible.  The way in which our class is working in teams and with Google Documents this year is unique, and I believe will draw extra attention from judges and visitors.

To register please use the online Science Fair Registration Application or download the paper form at  There is a $20 registration fee.  This is the only fee associated with the fair.  SPICE wants to ensure that all students who want to are able to participate in the science fair.  For that reason financial hardship scholarships are available.  To request a scholarship simply check the scholarship box on your application form.

Registration Deadline - April 30th, 2015.  Late registrations will only be accepted with director approval.

Parent Volunteer to Offer Mindfulness Workshops for Students

Amary, Elijah’s mom, has graciously offered to lead mindfulness exercises on Tuesday and Thursdays, starting at 1:50pm.  Mindfulness is the gentle effort of focussing on being present in the moment.

Smarter Balanced Test Practice

For the upcoming Smarter Balanced state tests, a temporary computer lab has been set up in the school’s library.  To help students become familiar with the structure of the test, our class is scheduled to have three 45 minute practice sessions next week.

Grounds Keeping and Outdoor Classroom Work Party

Come help us keep Ridgeline beautiful!  A volunteer grounds keeping work party will be held Saturday, April 11, 10am-3pm.  We'll be digging a path in the north field, weeding, pruning, raking and generally having fun; kids welcome too.  Bring gardening tools if you've got 'em, plus gloves & rugged clothing.  Meet at the outdoor classroom. All Family members may log volunteer hours.

Ridgeline’s Fundraising Goal

Only $12,442 to go to meet our fundraising goal of $40,000. Great news!  The not so great news is that we are also getting closer to the end of the school year and the funds must be raised by June 10th to pay for PE, music and our school counselor for the current school year. We appreciate all that our community has done and would like to ask those who haven't yet contributed (you know who you are) to donate online, send a check or drop off a donation with an RCO volunteer at curbside.

Our last two RCO meetings, April 7, and May 5, will be focused on our fundraising efforts for next year. Please plan to attend if you have suggestions that would help you open your wallet!

It would be incredible if we could raise $2,442 before next week's RCO meeting!  Please donate today.  Ridgeline students thank you.
