Clint's Weekly Update 3-12-15

posted Mar 12, 2015, 10:39 AM by Cynthia Friedman

Dear Families,

The SPICE instructors from the University of Oregon are very pleased with the progress students are making on their science fair projects.  Some groups have even started writing down procedures for the actual experiment.  Other groups are still trying to complete research, while most groups are somewhere in between.

Nicole from the WALAMA Restoration Project also commented on how well the class did during her recent flower anatomy lesson.  She brought in a bucket of daffodils for students to dissect and then use as a model for drawings.

U.S. History

This week, students put the finishing touches on Purple Dude Narrative writings that were inspired by reading Joy Hakim’s chapter on the Triangle Trade.  Many students decided to use this writing as an opportunity to practice their typing skills by touch typing the narrative and submitting it to me via Google Documents.

Quiet Space Support/Tutor Needed

We’re looking for volunteers who have time in the morning to support students working in a quiet space outside of the classroom.  Students may be working on individual work plans, on quiet partner work, or on group projects.  The volunteer would introduce herself or himself, ask the children what they’re working on, stay close by to help when needed, and help maintain an attitude of focus in the space. Please contact Cynthia if you’re interested!

Parent Survey

The annual Ridgeline Parent Survey is here! We want to hear your opinions on a variety of topics. Site Council uses the information obtained from the parent survey to continually strive for improvement. The survey deadline is March 20th. Click on the following link to complete the survey or contact the office if you need a paper copy.

New State Testing Parent Meeting

Mark your calendars and plan to attend an IMPORTANT parent meeting.  There are big changes to state testing (grades 3-8) this year and we want to make sure you are informed as a parent.  Students may attend the meeting and must remain with their parent, as child care will not be provided.  The meeting will take place Thursday, March 19th, at 6:30pm.
