Clint's Weekly Update 2-20-15

Dear Families,

On Wednesday we have the privilege of hosting Tom, Taryn, and Joelle from the University of Oregon’s SPICE Team.  They spent an hour working with different student research groups to identify the independent, dependent, and constant variables for each of the science fair questions.  The student research teams were then asked to record these variables in a special Google Document.

Your son or daughter was then asked to electronically share this document with you so you can offer advice and support as s/he navigates the various steps in the scientific process.  I have also attached a document listing the 17 approved Science Fair Questions and the team(s) your son or daughter will be leading and/or interning for.  If you have expertise with any of the topics students will be investigating and would like to mentor a student research team, please let me know.  We are interested in partnering with others that are interested in helping us design sound scientific experiments to test our hypotheses.

If you are interested in seeing which science fair steps your child has completed, please visit this Google Document:
XtraMath Sessions
Students will still be asked to complete a total of eight XtraMath sessions during any given two week work cycle.  For example, for the next work period, students will have between the morning of Thursday, February 12 and the night of Wednesday, February 25 to complete their eight sessions.  Any missed sessions will be counted as a missing assignment on the work plan.  XtraMath can be accessed at

Typing Club Time
Students enthusiastically supported the idea of TypingClub having a weekly minute minimum instead of a daily one.  As a result, your child will now be asked to spend at least 20 minutes each week developing their touch typing skills.  This can be done in one 20 minute session or over the course of seven days, whichever fits best with your child's schedule.  Like XtraMath, the second Wednesday night of the two week work cycle will be the cutoff for TypingClub minutes being counted on a given work plan.  TypingClub can be accessed at

DDD Pasta Dinner
Our annual Ridgeline Community Pasta Dinner DDD Event will take place this Friday, February 20th from 5-7pm in the gym. Parent volunteers are working hard to organize the evening. We will serve penne pasta with pesto and marinara, bread, and salad. (Gluten-free options will be available.)

There is no fee for the dinner; however we highly encourage families to bring their donation for the Direct Donation Drive. Visit with other Ridgeline families, sign up for escrip, bid on the classroom pasta bowls, and bring your donation for the DDD!  We still need to raise $24,000 in order to pay for PE, our counselor, and music teacher this year!
