Greetings from Room 10!
The week after Thanksgiving Break our class had the first Going Out of the year. Four students, accompanied by a parent and Mary Kate, took an epic tour of most of our solar system's planets, starting at Eugene's Alton Baker Park. The park features a model, in 1:1 billionth scale, of the sun and inner planets. The girls were conducting research about the distances between the various planets for their cultural research paper that is due next week.
Their experience has sparked other interest in Going Outs, with two ideas currently being tossed around: One to Autzen Stadium to better understand the support systems and structures that are in place for college football games. The other idea is to visit the laser tag arena at Putters Family Entertainment in Eugene to better understand how to organize and brief large groups for that type of event. The ultimate plan of the boys behind this idea is to have a Nerf Kids Tournament Fundraising event at Ridgeline.
Plenty of other opportunities exist for students to organize Going Outs. It is my hope that every kid in the class will have at least one this year. If you have any suggestions for Going Outs that connect to the topics of the beginning of Life on Earth and/or cultures of the Western Hemisphere, please let us know.
