Weekly Update for the Week of Dec. 8-12

Dear Families,

Interested in Being a Fieldtrip Chaperone?

We have two fieldtrips coming up!

  1. Thursday, December 18.  10:40-12:30.  Salmon Release Field Trip.  We are riding a 4J bus sponsored by EWEB.  Your child’s permission slip, with a space for chaperone sign-up, went home in Home Folders.*

  2. Friday, January 9.  9:05-11:30am.  Tree Planting at Alton Baker Park (coordinated through the City of Eugene’s Parks and Open Space Division).  Parent are an essential part what we do at Ridgeline, including helping transport students for field trips like this one.  If you are interested and able to drive on the morning of Friday, January 9, please let me know by checking the “Able to Drive” box on the Tree Planting field trip permission slip that also went home in your child’s Home Folder.*

For this field trip, I will also like someone to assist in helping me find additional drivers (if we need more) and then complete a driver information checklist for each vehicle.  Please email me if you are able to help in this way.

*Given the tight time frame, I am also attaching each permission slip to this email for you to use as a backup to the hardcopy one already sent home.

Calendar Project Due Monday!

Calendars need to be print ready and paid for by Monday, December 15th.  Your child should have brought home the “2015 Calendar Print Order Form” in the purple Home Folder today.** This quality of each student’s research, challenging math problems, and awesome detailed illustrations is inspiring!

**Given the tight time frame, I am also attaching an order form to this email for you to use as a backup to the hardcopy one already sent home.

Two-Week Work Plan

After experimenting with a two-week work plan during the weeks of conferences and Thanksgiving, students have requested that we continue using it.  This means you will be receiving your child’s work plan every other Friday, instead of each Friday.  Look forward to the next Bi-Weekly Work Plan on Friday, December 19.

History Investigations

Many students have indicated that they believe there are historical connections to the 3-Islands Project.  To help facilitate their interest in making these connections, I am providing lessons built around Joy Hakim’s history book series called, “A History of US.”  Students are in the process of reading their third chapter focussing on European exploration of the Western Hemisphere.
