Weekly Update for Nov. 9-13
The NUGYRO-bound characters and spacecrafts are finally on their way. They have even encountered their first challenge of the journey: a major comet. To represent this very dangerous comet tail traverse, students moved themselves and one set of our class’ life-size spacecraft materials through an obstacle course. From start to finish, it took us 32 minutes, in real time. In all, this means it would take the entire convoy about 6 days to cross the South Winds Comet (multiply 32 minutes by 120 spaceships in our convoy, then double that total to account for getting the 5,000 pets through).

After the challenge, we had the opportunity to debrief as a class. Many students found this “team building” activity highly engaging. The conversation touched on how teams worked together, communication styles, and how to help others succeed. I am looking forward to seeing more social-emotional growth as more of these challenges present themselves during our journey towards NUGYRO.

Three Week Work Plan
With Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, and the time being spent on the first few challenges of the NUGYRO Project, the current work plan is intended to span from November 9 to November 25.
Friday 11/13 – Grandperson’s Day & Barnes & Noble Book Fair
As you know, parking is extremely limited here at the school. We encourage you to consider dropping off and picking up your grandperson, if possible. All staff and volunteers are being asked to park at Crossfire and walk that day to help reserve spaces closer to school for our visitors. Last year we had nearly one hundred attendees!
Please review the schedule and remind your grandperson that they will need to bring their own lunch. Ridgeline will have light refreshments when they arrive, but lunch is not provided.
Here is the schedule for Grandperson’s Day - November 13:
10:15 Arrive, sign in, and enjoy refreshments
10:45 Welcome and introductions
11:15 Montessori presentation
11:45 Visit classrooms and enjoy your sack lunch with your special young person
12:20 Switch classrooms (if you are visiting more than one young person)
