Clint's Weekly Update 1-22-15

posted Jan 22, 2015, 11:36 AM by Cynthia Friedman

Dear Families,

Based on parent requests, I am now asking students to take their bi-weekly work plans home at the end of each week.  There is a new section at the bottom of the work plan for students and parents to sign the “End of Week #1” section.  The purpose of this is to facilitate more routine conversations at home about what is (and isn’t) being completed in class.  As always, if you see anything on your child’s work plan that you would like to discuss with me, please contact me so we can set up a time to conference.

University of Oregon’s Science Fair/Ridgeline’s Project Fair

The process has begun for students to submit ideas for this year’s science fair projects.  The following flow shows the first steps that 5th and 6th year students will be asked to follow.

Fourth year students may choose to submit a question of their own as well, but are not required to do so.  Fourth years will be asked to join at least one team that is led by a 5th or 6th year student, even if the 4th year submits a question of his or her own.

Typing Club and XtraMath Practice at Home

The expectation this week is for students to practice touch typing and basic math facts at home, unless a parent notifies me that this is not possible.

Student that have not logged into Typing Club before can do so by following this link:  https://clintmoore.typingclub.com.  Your child's login should be his or her first name (all lower case) + 4500.  Mine would be clint4500.  The only exception would be students with the same first name.  When this is the case, their login would be their first name + last initial + 4500 (again, all lower case).  His or her password should be the same as their Xtra Math password.

Please contact me if you have any questions, if your child says that they cannot login, or if a computer or Internet connection is not available at home.

After School Programs At Ridgeline

Several organizations are now offering after school programs at Ridgeline! If you are interested in after school activities for your child(ren) see details near the bottom of the eNews in a new section called “After School Programs At Ridgeline.” Current programs include: Imagination Yoga, Young Rembrandts, and TGA Tennis & Golf.

Attention Gardeners: Seeds for Spring!

We will once again participate in the Territorial Seed Fundraiser. Catalogs and special fundraiser order forms will be sent home as soon as they arrive (either this Friday or next week). Ridgeline will receive 45 cents per dollar ordered. This is a fabulous way to get a jump-start on your spring planting and support Ridgeline at the same time! Friends and family are welcome to order, but they MUST include a Ridgeline contact person, as seeds will be sent home with students. Watch for more details, including due dates.

Seeking Volunteers: Board of Directors Secretary

This year the Upper El classes are partnering with the Walama Restoration Project (WRP), a non-profit dedicated to environmental stewardship and biological diversity through education and habitat restoration.  WRP is able to provide the From Seed to Habitat Program (FSTH) to Ridgeline at no cost through grant funding and volunteer efforts! WRP’s education programs provide students with hands-on experience restoring native ecosystems, collecting and preparing seeds, and identifying native plants and habitats.   WRP is currently seeking members of the community to join their Board of Directors.  They encourage interested individuals with experience in education, environmental sciences, or an interest in saving critically imperiled Willamette Valley Habitat to tell them little bit about yourself and sit in on a board meeting.  Their next board meeting is March 18th at 6:30 in the upstairs meeting room of the Growers Market:

454 Willamette Street, Eugene, OR 97401
