Two-Week Work Plan
Please expect to find the most recent two-week work plan in today’s Purple Home Folder. Work that was not completed will be highlighted. Students are responsible for finishing incomplete or missing assignments at home.
Presentations on chapters from Joy Hakim’s series “A History of US” commenced this week. Each student first read an assigned chapter and then met with two other teams that read the same chapter, to verify the important historical figures and events. This meeting resulted in a list that I used during the actual presentation to determine the presenting group’s grade. Some groups were not happy with their score and are choosing to revise their presentation and present it again next week.
Many students noticed additional connections between the content that was presented and 3 Islands’ events.
All students completed all four of the EasyCBM Winter tests this week in Math, Reading Comprehension, Reading Fluency, and Vocabulary. Scores comparing your child’s performance on the Fall test vs. the Winter test should be available at Conference time.
Typing Club and XtraMath Practice at Home
During the EasyCBM testing computers were not available for XtraMath or TypingClub practice. Instead, I asked students to do their math fact and typing practice at home. Only 12 students did so. In the future, it would be advantageous for XtraMath or TypingClub to be done at home, instead of in the classroom, so students have more time to work collaboratively while they are here. If your child is not able to complete either of these tasks at home because of limited internet, please let me know and I will make sure he or she has computer time here to complete these important assignments. Otherwise, please remind your child to complete these activities at home each night.
For your son or daughter to access TypingClub at home, the will need to follow this link: https://clintmoore.typingclub.com. If he or she does not have an account already set up, they can talk to me and I will register them with the same username and password as for XtraMath.
Students that have not tested out of XtraMath practice can login to their account by going to https://xtramath.org/signin/student. Your child should know his or her login or password already.
WALAMA Restoration Project
This week we were graced with Nicole’s guidance in building hoop houses to help young plants get a healthy start. Students pounded rebar into the ground with mallets and bent PVC pipe to create the supports for the plastic.
Middle School Plan
I’ve attached Jon’s awesome middle school plan, the sparknotes version, for anyone who missed the live presentation.
Inclement Weather and Emergency Closures
In the case of inclement weather that would make roads, school parking lots, driveways, or sidewalks unsafe for travel, Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School will be closed when the 4J school district is closed. If Ridgeline is scheduled to be in session, and no announcement is made, school is still in schedule as planned.
The 4J school district will make this announcement in many ways, which are (as of Dec 2013):
· 4J’s website, http://www.4j.lane.edu
· Twitter @4Jweather / text message alerts
· KRVM 91.9 FM, and other local TV and radio stations.
School closure and bus route decisions normally are made early in the morning and announced by 6:30 a.m. This is to ensure the most current weather conditions are assessed. Decisions are made district-wide and are the same for every 4J school.
Ridgeline Montessori will delay opening when 4J schools are scheduled to open on a delayed schedule.
Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School may be in session on a day when 4J happens to be already out of session. In this case, Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School will make the announcement on its web site,http://www.ridgeline.org.
Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School values safety above all else. Neither 4J nor Ridgeline can make a decision based on conditions nearby to individual families or staff. Families and staff are encouraged to consider road and sidewalk conditions in their areas and make decisions based on safety. Ridgeline Montessori honors parents’ decisions about school attendance in these conditions. Staff members should contact the school and exercise leave options available to them when they believe they are unable to get to work safely.
