CHERI’S CLASS FAMILY PICNIC: Please come to our class picnic. Meet new friends and old. The picnic is scheduled for, Thursday, September 28, 5:30-6:30. Bring your family, a blanket and a picnic dinner. We’ll gather on the hillside behind the classroom. (In case of rain, we’ll move to the classroom or the covered area by the playground)

CHESS CLUB: Unfortunately Brian Schartz is not able to teach chess this year. What about another

type of game opportunity for Wednesday afternoons at 1:30? If a couple of adults would like

to supervise checkers, Yahtzee or other table games during this hour we have the space to make it happen! Let me know if you are interested.

BOTANY STUDIES: This month and next we are investigating seeds. We will look at seeds that come from flowers as well as those inside the fruits and vegetables that we eat. If you have sunflowers in your yard, please consider sharing some with the classroom. This week, thanks to Kate Walser (Brigg’s mom), we planted peas outside in our raised bed. We look forward to adding salad greens, radishes and flowers to the bed. Thanks to Stephanie Relling (Liam’s mom), we have a living corn plant in our classroom! Students enjoy labeling the parts of a corn plant. Next Wednesday, every student will have the opportunity to shuck and eat fresh corn. The corn will be cooked using a propane cook stove behind our classroom. We also plan to visit an apple orchard and pumpkin patch at Detering Farms next month. Watch for details in next week’s update.

Thank you for sharing your amazing children.
