posted May 25, 2012, 10:30 AM by Cynthia Friedman
No School Monday, May 28, in honor of Memorial Day.

Sharing theme: This week (May 28): An instrument or a collection

Next week (June 4): Your Choice

Jog-a-thon fun: What a great time we all had at last Friday’s Jog-a-thon! Thanks to everyone for your support. Please collect pledges and return them to school.

Chapala’s Trip: We are planning our annual trip to Chapala’s Mexican restaurant for the last week of school. Watch for menu details and a permission form with the next update. Families are welcome to join us for this outing.

Teacher Interns looking for homestay families: Every year for the past 6 years, our school has sponsored a college student from China or Japan. These students are in their third year preparing to be teachers and have been accepted into the University of Oregon’s exchange program, CASLS (Center for Applied Second Language Studies). They spend a year here in Eugene attending classes and working in local schools. The students at Ridgeline will work full time in the classroom from September through January or from February through June. These students have been taking classes in English since elementary school and are quite independent. They use public transportation and often travel during the school breaks. Host families are asked to provide a bedroom, conversation and inclusion in some family activities. In return families enjoy the friendship and experience of knowing a person from a different culture. There is also a monthly stipend paid to the home stay families. Please let me know if you may be interested in hosting one of these delightful students and I will give you more information.

HOMEWORK: Please return Homework Packets. I appreciate your support of our homework program this year. Encourage your students to practice reading, writing and math over the Summer Break. E-mail or send a note if you would like suggestions.

Easy CBM (Curriculum-Based Assessment): All students take these District required tests during the last weeks of school. Students will complete the reading and math components and scores will be included in the final report card. Please be sure your student is well rested and eats a healthy breakfast.
