Cheri’s Class Weekly Update APRIL 11, 2016
Upcoming Events:

· PROJECT FAIR: Tuesday, April 26, 3:15-4:15 or 6:00-7:00
· READ-A THON STARTS: Friday, April 15

SHARING: April 11- A sign of spring, April 18- A favorite book

LIBRARY FIELD TRIP: Thursday, April 28, the class will visit the Eugene Public Library. We’ll ride LTD, leaving at 9:25am, and enjoy a story and tour. We’ll return to school at 11:50, just in time for lunch! Please be sure we have your child’s completed permission form (attached).

PROJECT FAIR: It’s that time again! Ridgeline’s annual Project Fair will happen April 26.
For this event, students research a topic of their choice then create a visual display to share information with others. On April 26, families and friends come to enjoy the displays after school at 3:15-4:15 or later in the evening, 6:00-7:00pm. Projects are completed at home but classroom teachers can answer questions, offer suggestions or provide resources. Here are some examples of projects completed by students from previous years: a model of a car engine built with Legos, pictures of pets and how to care for them, pictures and facts about the life of Houdini, a mobile of the solar system, pictures and facts showing the life cycle of a frog, a plant experiment, rules and playing instructions for Chess, 3 generations of a “family tree”, the land and culture of Belize, and a research about Electric Eels!

We have large cardboard display boards available for $3. Let me know if you have questions or if you’d like a cardboard display.

SMARTER BALANCED TEST PRACTICE: The Smarter Balanced test for grades 3-8 has a Practice Site where students can become familiar with the types of questions and tools (especially important) available to them. If you have internet at home, please encourage your student to take some practice tests. I recommend both the Math and ELA Grades 3-5 Training Test since they are very short. These tests will familiarize students with computer tools. After those, practice any of the G3 ELA or Math tests, including the Performance Tasks. Let me know if you have questions. Website:

CHESS SETS AVAILABLE: Brian Schartz, Livingstone’s Dad, oversees Chess Club every Wednesday afternoon at Ridgeline. Lately he comes early and coaches students from our classroom that are interested in learning to play the game of chess. If you are interested in buying a chess set for home, please check out Brian’s email message below:

I just ordered a bunch of chess sets. I get free shipping and a discount for buying in bulk so the sets are a lot less expensive. If any of the parents would like to purchase a set they are $13.45 for the pieces, roll up board, and carrying bag. I personally like these Scholastic sets with weighted pieces.

Feel free to email Brian:
