posted Mar 6, 2015, 10:08 AM by Cynthia Friedman
Upcoming Events:
Thursday, March 5 Curriculum Sharing 3:15 and 6:00
Sunday, March 8 Daylight Savings Time begins. Move clocks ahead one hour
Friday, March 13 Professional Development for staff. No School for students.
March 23-29 Spring Break. School resumes Monday, March 30

**HOMEWORK: Please return homework packets Friday morning. We included book report forms as a home journal writing option for students. Let us know if your student wants more of these forms. Other writing options include journal entries that practice opinion, informative and narrative writing. Teachers are required to evaluate every student’s knowledge of these specific writing modes. They are Common Core educational standards and are included in the student report cards. Home journal entries can provide evidence of writing skills proficiency for assessment purposes.

No School Friday, March 13. Professional development day for teachers

New State Testing Parent Meeting – Mark your calendars and plan to attend an IMPORTANT parent meeting. There are big changes to state testing (grades 3-8) this year and we want to make sure you are informed as a parent. The meeting will take place Thursday March 19th, at 6:30pm.

Curriculum Sharing: You are invited to come to school with your child this Thursday, March 5, for Curriculum Sharing. This is an opportunity for your child to show you the classroom and some favorite work. To accommodate family schedules, we have two times available. Come anytime between 3:15-4:15 or 6:00-7:00. See you there.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS: Please remember to adjust your clocks Sunday, March 8. This change means your kiddos will be getting up an hour earlier. Plan to go to bed earlier and arrive at school on time! Thanks.

SHARING THEME: 3/9- An item made from wood, 3/16- A recipe, song or poem. Suggested theme topics are optional and other choices are just fine. Please remember, “sharing” in the classroom is an opportunity for your student to practice oral presentation skills. These include: projecting voice so all can hear, making eye contact with audience and responding to questions or comments appropriately. Items or experiences shared should have educational value and students should to be prepared to relate at least 3 facts about their sharing. Thanks for your support.

SPRING BREAK is scheduled for week of March 23–27. Back to school Monday, March 30.

SOLAR SYSTEM: In March we’ll study the solar system, beginning with our closest star, the sun. It will be especially interesting to learn more about the first five dwarf planets: Ceres, Pluto, Eris, Makemake and Haumea.

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL: Our 100 Day celebration was lots of fun, filled with many challenging math activities. Students brought a wide variety of interesting items to glue onto their 100 grids, which will be displayed for your enjoyment during Thursday’s Curriculum Sharing.
