READ AT EMERALD VALLEY: On Wednesday mornings, 10:15-10:45, a small group of children from our classroom walk next door to Emerald Valley Assisted Living. They spend 30 minutes reading and chatting with one of the residents then walk back to school. This program has been possible because we’ve had supportive parent volunteers that accompany our students. We need more help. If you are able to walk with the group one or twice a month please let me know.

VALENTINE’S DAY: This year Valentine’s Day, 2/14, is not a school day. We plan to celebrate on Thursday, Feb 11, instead. If your child would like to bring cards for their classmates, please bring them in Thursday morning. The children have woven special, heart-shaped envelopes for their cards. A list of the student names is attached so the kids can label cards. Please remember: distributing cards is optional. However, if your child chooses to bring valentine cards, please be sure there is one for every student. Also, this year children are invited to wear pajamas, slippers and robes. We’ll eat popcorn and distribute Valentine cards. A lap-sized stuffie can join the funJ Please be sure PJ’s are warm and appropriate for school. The kids will have recess, PE and music class as usual.

Eugene Symphony Youth Concert: Our class will attend “The Orchestra Sings,” a special, elementary youth concert at the Hult Center on Tuesday, February 16. Transportation will be by LTD bus. We plan to leave school at 9:25 and return by 12:30. The cost for this field trip is $5 for the concert ticket. Transportation is free. Scholarships are available. Please be sure we have your student’s permission form by Wednesday, Feb 10!

Honoring your Child’s Growing Independence: A Night with Robyn Breiman Wed. Feb. 10, 6-7:30 pm

Please join us for a very special parent education night. We have hired the fabulous Robyn Breiman for three days of intensive Montessori workshops and consultation to our school. We were overjoyed when Robyn accepted our invitation, as she has dedicated her life to inspiring and guiding authentic Montessori education in the United States, especially in public schools. As part of this visit, she will be speaking to parents about how to support autonomous learning. The night will also feature Ridgeline students showcasing and discussing their own independent work. Don’t miss it! Childcare is available by reservation. If you RSVP we can save you a seat!

ASIAN CELEBRATION 2016! Students from our class have been invited to participate in the Bhangra dance performances during the 2016 Asian Celebration. This amazing event is held at the Lane Events Center on Saturday and Sunday, February 20, 21. Admission is free for kids and $6.00 a day for adults but families of children that participate will receive one free adult admission for both days of the festival! Please let me know if your student is able to participate and I’ll be sure your name is on the free admission list. The dance they have been practicing is wonderful. Our kids are scheduled to dance on Sunday at 4:30. When you arrive, please check-in with teachers in the area behind the main stage so we know you you’ve arrived. Instructor SatPavan asks that children arrive by 3:45! Questions? Send a note, an email or leave a message (541) 681-9662. Hope you can make it!
