WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT RIDGELINE’S MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM? Parents are encouraged to attend RCO on Tuesday, January 6th, when Jon Labrousse will be wowing us with Middle School plans for 2015-2016. Don’t miss the chance to hear all about our wondrous middle program! RCO meetings start at 6 and run until 7:30. Childcare is available.

RETURN HOMEWORK PACKETS: Please return homework packets this Friday, Dec. 12.

BOTANY AND THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD: December’s botany studies focus on parts & types of bulbs. We’ve always started an Amaryllis bulb in the classroom this time of year, timing it to bloom just before Winter Break. The children write a hypothesis and started weekly observations to record results. Unfortunately, for the first time ever, our bulb isn’t growing! Fortunately we started a Paper White bulb as a back up. The Paper White is doing very well and recently produced a beautiful flower. This just goes to show: sometimes experiments have unexpected results!

http://xtramath.org: Several of the students in my class have started using this site to practice math facts. The free site can be used both at school and at home. All a student needs is their

4-digit pin. Let me know if you would like to try it at home and I’ll send your student’s pin.

WINTER HOLIDAYS: We’ll spend the rest of December and January discussing holidays around the world. We’ll especially focus on Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Chinese New Year, Los Posadas, Christmas and New Year’s Eve! I’m hoping students will share one of their family’s holiday traditions with their classmates. If you have books or objects that support our studies please consider sharing.

THE JOY OF SHARING: Winter break is almost here, which means it is time for the Joy of Sharing! This annual Food Drive begins on Dec. 12 and continues through Dec. 16. Please bring non-perishable donations to school during this week. In addition to food, other items such as toilet paper and personal hygiene items are welcome. With the donated items, we will create and distribute food baskets to Ridgeline families in need of assistance. Thanks for your support with this program.

Sharing: 12/8 A sign of winter, 12/15 Symbol of a holiday tradition
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children! Cheri and Azusa
