Library Field Trip: Thursday, October 11, the class will visit the Eugene Public Library. We’ll ride LTD, leaving at 9:15am, and enjoy a story and tour. We’ll return to school at 11:45, just in time for lunch! Please be sure we have your child’s completed permission form. (*attached)

Sharing theme (week of 10/8): Something with a 3-syllable name, (week of 10/15): A sign of Autumn

Generations in reading: Our school is partnering with our next door neighbor, Emerald Valley Assisted Living, to promote friendships through reading. Wednesday several of our students walked to Emerald Valley where they talked with and read stories to residents. I wish you all could have seen the happy faces of both the elderly folks and our students as they learned about each other. We plan to visit visit Emerald Valley every Tuesday morning.

Biomes: Again this year we will study geography, climate, plants, animals and people through our study of Biomes of the World. A biome is a habitat and has it’s own climate and living conditions. We will study five different biomes: Aquatic, Desert, Polar Regions, Temperate/Rain Forests, and Grasslands. As well as oceans and seas, students will research marine plants and animals. Please send a small shoebox to school for the construction of an aquatic biome diorama. Our Biomes study begins with Oceans of the World.

Curriculum Sharing: This fun event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 26. Please come with your student and visit the classroom. You can come anytime between 3:15-4:15 or 6:00pm-7:00. Let your child show you some favorite classroom work. If you are unable to attend this time, don’t worry. There will be other Curriculum Sharing opportunities this year.

International Children’s Day: Wednesday, Oct. 31, students in Cheri’s Class are invited to celebrate International Children’s Day by dressing in traditional clothing from another country or culture. The costumes can be anything from a ‘French beret’ or ‘Mexican sombrero’ to something more elaborate. As well as making flags and maps, each child will have an opportunity to research and share information about their country or culture. Afterwards we’ll snack on some international foods in the classroom. The snacks need to be commercially prepared/packaged or prepared at school. If you can help with snack donations or classroom set up, please let us know.

Family Conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, (Nov. 1-2). Please sign up for a time in the office. If times listed are not convenient and you’d like to schedule a meeting at another time send a note, call 541-681-9662 or e-mail:
