PUMPKIN PATCH FIELD TRIP: Next Tuesday, October 18, our class will ride a 4J bus to Detering Farms. We’ll visit the apple orchard, eat lunch then ride a tractor-pulled wagon to the pumpkin patch where we will choose pumpkins to bring back! We plan to leave school around 9:15am and return by1:30pm.

We need adult supervisors. Please let us know if you are available. Adults need to have green badge security clearance to accompany students on this field trip.

The cost for the field trip is $5.50 per person. If the cost presents a hardship and you would like scholarship information, please call the office. (541-681-9662). Parents and younger siblings are welcome. A permission form is attached. Please complete and return ASAP.

PICTURE RETAKES are scheduled for Wednesday, October 26.

CURRICULUM SHARING is Wednesday, October 19: The spotlight is on your child as they bring you into the classroom and show you some favorite activities. Please come anytime from 3:15-4:15 or 6:30-7:30pm. Enjoy this special time with your student!

DRESS UP FOR INTERNATIONAL DAY: On Friday, Oct. 28, students in Cheri’s Class are invited to celebrate International Day by dressing in a costume or clothing from another country. The costumes can be anything from a ‘French beret’ or ‘Mexican sombrero’ to something more elaborate. As well as making flags and maps, each child will have an opportunity to research and share information about their country. Afterwards we’ll snack on some international foods. The snacks need to be commercially prepared and packaged or prepared at school. If you can help with snack donations or classroom set up, please let me know. Questions? Email or send a note.

SCIENCE- This week students watched a demonstration focused on the 3 states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. Their illustrations made for thought provoking follow-up work with lots of interesting discussion!

BOTANY STUDIES: Corn on the cob was a delicious lunch treat Tuesday. Thank you volunteers, Tim and Cliff, for your help with husking and cooking.

We are learning about deserts of the world and plan to create dioramas from cardboard boxes. Please send a small (child’s shoes size) shoe box, or similar, to school with your student.

STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES are coming up Monday, October 31 and Tuesday, November 1. This year parents will be able to reserve conference times online! This week's eNews will have the link to sign up! Questions? Email or call the office 541-681-9662.

On Tuesday, October 18, we will visit Detering Orchards in Harrisburg. We rented a 4J school bus to transport us and plan to leave school at 10:50AM and return by 1:15. The children will tour the orchards where they will pick apples, then ride in a wagon and choose a pumpkin to bring back to school. Please send an extra-strong, reusable bag that your student can use to carry their pumpkin. We will also eat lunch at the farm. Pack a disposable lunch (paper or wax paper bags, throw away or refillable drink). Rain gear (boots & jackets) may be necessary.
