Cheri's Weekly Update 10-12-12

posted Oct 15, 2012, 10:09 AM by Cynthia Friedman
NO SCHOOL Friday: Oct. 12, is Teacher In-service Day. No school for students.

Field Trip to Library: Our trip to the Eugene Public Library was a great adventure. We rode the LTD bus to the Downtown Station. At the library, we saw the machines in the book-sorting room, listened to a story and enjoyed a tour. The children were polite, good listeners and asked relevant questions. Many thanks to the parent volunteers that joined us.

Sharing theme (week of 10/15): A sign of Autumn, (week of 10/22): A mask, scarf or funny hat

Pumpkin patch: Our Pumpkin Patch trip is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 19. Drivers should arrive at school by 9:45 for our 10:00 departure. We will return to Ridgeline by 12:45. Please indicate the number of students you can transport keeping in mind that many of the students are in booster seats. Also, in order to drive, you must submit a copy of your vehicle registration, driver's license, and insurance card. Thank you for your support. A permission form is attached. Please print, complete and return with $4.00. If the cost presents a hardship, call the Ridgeline office for scholarship information. (681-9662) If you need a paper copy of the permission form, let us know.

Biomes: Please send a small shoebox to school for the construction of an aquatic biome diorama. If you have items or books that support our study of Aquatic Biomes, please consider sharing with the classroom community.

Curriculum Sharing: This fun event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16. Please come with your student and visit the classroom. You can come anytime between 3:00-4:00 or 6:30pm-7:30. Let your child show you some favorite classroom work. If you are unable to attend this time, don’t worry. There will be other Curriculum Sharing opportunities this year.

Questions? E-mail, call 541-681-9662, drop by or send a note.

International Children’s Day: Wednesday, Oct. 31, students in Cheri’s Class are invited to celebrate International Children’s Day by dressing in traditional clothing from another country or culture. The costumes can be anything from a ‘French beret’ or ‘Mexican sombrero’ to something more elaborate. As well as making flags and maps, each child will have an opportunity to research and share information about their country or culture. Afterwards we’ll snack on some international foods in the classroom. The snacks need to be commercially prepared/packaged or prepared at school. If you can help with snack donations or classroom set up, please let us know.

Family Conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, (Nov. 1-2). Please sign up for a time in the office. If times listed are not convenient and you’d like to meet at another time, send a note, call 541-681-9662 or e-mail:

Nutrition Bars – We are asking ALL families to send a cereal or protein bar labeled with your student’s name, and a family photo (for encouragement & comfort), in a ziploc bag. These will go into our emergency kits. The bars will be eaten in the event of an emergency or at field day, whichever comes first! Please send the bag (with the bar and photo) to your class and the teacher will check you off. Due by October 13th. Thank you

Lone Pine Field Trip
On Friday, October 19, we will travel to Lone Pine Farm. Parent cars will transport students. We leave school at 10:00 and return around 12:30. The children will ride in a hay wagon to the pumpkin patch and choose a pumpkin to bring back to school. After our ride, we’ll enjoy lunch at the farm. Please send a disposable lunch in a paper bag with your student. Rain gear (boots and jackets) may be necessary. Pumpkins will stay at school for a day or two so we can wash, weigh and measure them! Please send $4.00 for each wagon rider. If the cost presents a hardship and you would like scholarship information, please call the office. (541-681-9662). Oregon State law requires that children over 40 pounds ride in a booster seat until age 8, or until they are 4 feet, 9 inches in height. Please plan to bring your child’s booster seat for the field trip.
