PUMPKIN PATCH FIELD TRIP: For our Pumpkin Patch trip this year the class will travel to Wintergreen Farm in Noti, owned by Shannon & Chris Overbaugh (Alden’s parents). Last Spring, Shannon brought pumpkin seeds in for the students to plant in pots. She took all the pots home and, after the seeds sprouted, planted them at their farm. This fall the children will choose pumpkins from these very same plants! The trip is scheduled for Monday, October 21. We plan to rent a 4J school bus and ride together out to the farm, leaving Ridgeline at 10:00AM and returning by 2:30. Between wagon rides, farm tours and pumpkin gathering the children will eat a
lunch brought from home. Family members are welcome. To cover the cost for our bus, every rider will pay $4.00. The Overbaughs are not charging Alden’s classmates for this special farm visit. Please complete the attached field trip notice and return it to school.

CURRICULUM SHARING: This engaging event is planned for Thursday, Oct. 17. Curriculum Sharing is a time for you and your child to spend time together in the classroom. Your student may want to show you some favorite work and take you on a classroom tour.
Whatever the choice, this is your student’s chance to demonstrate their independence and pride in their classroom. Let them shine!
On Thursday, come into the classroom with your student either right after school, 3:15-4:15 or later in the day, 6:00-7:00. See you there.

Homework Program: I hope your students are enjoying homework. Please remember to return homework packets Friday morning. Questions? Please email or send a note.

Stick Bugs: Thanks to our student, Jack, and his family, we are becoming acquainted with the interesting antics of stick bugs. They eat blackberry leaves and what masters of camouflage they are! The stick-bugs (or walking sticks) live in an aquarium in our classroom. If you have a blackberry bush near your house please send in a small branch. My Google search tells me they prefer older leaves.

Important Information from Chrystell: Income Survey Clarification – The Confidential Income Survey is an annual form that corresponds to the school year. Each autumn a new form comes out. Scholarships that were granted last spring for the 2013-14 school year still need to have a new income survey form filled out for the current year.

Are We At 41%? – If 41% of Ridgeline families qualify for free/reduced lunch based on the federal income guidelines we may qualify for Federal Title One monies. Last year we reached that number, but not by the December deadline. Please take time to fill out the confidential income survey if your family qualifies. These green forms were sent home in the back to school packets and copies are available in the office.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Permission
On Monday, October 21, we plan to visit Wintergreen Farm in Noti. We will travel via 4J bus and plan to leave school at 10:00 and return by 2:30. The children will tour the farm, ride in a hay wagon and choose a pumpkin to bring back to school. We’ll also enjoy lunch at the farm. Please send an appropriate lunch and an extra reusable bag that your student can use to carry their pumpkin. Rain gear (boots and jackets- but no umbrellas) may be necessary. Pumpkins will stay at school for a day or two so we can wash, weigh and measure them. Please send $4.00 for each bus rider. If the cost presents a hardship and you would like scholarship information, please call the office (541-681-9662).
