Dear Ridgeline Families,
No School tomorrow, Friday. Teachers have an in-service day. Our students have been practicing Bhangra dance for a performance at the upcoming Block Party this Saturday, October 11, at Southtowne Shoppes. Please meet instructor, SatPavan, at 1:15pm by the stage.
The Ridgeline Rising Silent Auction and Block Party at Southtowne Shoppes!:
This Saturday, Oct. 11, is the Block Party! Invite your friends and join us beginning at noon. Southtowne Shoppes is located on Oak Street between 28th & 29th Avenues. There will be lots of fun events including a silent auction featuring Ridgeline classroom’s baskets. Check out our “Duck-themed” basket! Many thanks to our basket organizer, Cheryle Myers! Our kids dance at 1:30. On Saturday, Mood Area 52 will play Russian tango music. A silent auction will include an enormous amount of items donated from local businesses. During the silent auction the Eugene Bhangra dance group will be dancing, and The Ridgeline Ukulele Extravaganza (T.R.U.E.) will be playing. Our event will close with a lively performance by Eugene’s own Sugar Beets! See you there!
PETER AND THE WOLF ELEMENTARY YOUTH CONCERT: This concert will feature several well-known pieces by famous composers including Tchaikovsky’s Flight of the Bumblebee and Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. Next Tuesday, October 14, our class will ride LTD to the downtown bus station and walk to the Hult Center. Admission is $5.00 per student. We plan to leave school at 8:50AM and return by noon. Be sure we have your permission form and payment. Questions? Email email@example.com, send a note or call the office 541-681-9662
PUMPKIN PATCH: Again this year the class will get to visit Wintergreen Farm, operated by Ridgeline family, Shannon & Chris Overbaugh! We plan to rent a 4J bus and ride to the farm on Wednesday, October 22. Watch for details in next week’s Update.
MACTE: Montessori Accreditation Committee for Teacher Education: October 15-17, I will participate in a team visit to a Montessori teacher-training program in Kalispell, Montana, that is seeking to renew their accreditation. The team’s primary responsibility is to ensure the training program meets criteria set by MACTE. Ten Essential Standards guide the team’s recommendations. I feel such professional connectedness when I visit training programs that prepare teachers to teach in Montessori schools! Azusa will take charge of the classroom in my absence and Sirswami will come in as the Assistant.
DRESS UP FOR INTERNATIONAL DAY: On Friday, Oct. 31, students in Cheri’s Class are invited to celebrate International Day by dressing in a costume or clothing from another country or culture. The costumes can be anything from a ‘French beret’ or ‘Mexican sombrero’ to something more elaborate. As well as making flags and maps, each child will have an opportunity to research and share information about their country. Afterwards we’ll snack on some international foods. The snacks need to be commercially prepared & packaged or prepared at school. If you can help with snack donations or classroom set up, please me know. Questions? Email or send a note.
Sharing: 10/13: Something from another country, 10/20: A mask, scarf or funny hat
