No school Monday, Jan. 30: Monday is a no-school day for students and a grading day for teachers.

FIELD TRIP TO HOUSE OF CHEN on Thursday, Feb. 9: In honor of Chinese New Year, our class will travel to the Chinese restaurant, House of Chen on Franklin Blvd. Our buffet style lunch will include vegetarian choices: vegetable chow mien and fried rice, as well as Mar Far chicken. The students and their adult supervisors will travel by LTD leaving Ridgeline at 9:30 and returning around 1:30. The cost for our lunch and bus ride is $6.50 per person. If you are interested in supervising students please let us know. If the cost for this field trip presents a hardship and you would like scholarship information, please call the office (541-681-9662)

ASIAN CELEBRATION 2017! Once again our students are invited to participate in the Bhangra dance performances during the 2017 Asian Celebration. This multi-cultural event is held at the Lane Events Center on Saturday & Sunday, Feb. 18-19. Our kids are scheduled to dance at 4:30pm, Sunday (Feb. 19). OUR CLASSROOM FACEBOOK ACCOUNT IS UP AND RUNNING: Karna, our classroom parent, has volunteered to set up our classroom facebook account. Participants need to be ‘invited’ (and accept) in order to access this facebook group. You should be hearing from her soon. Be sure we have your current email address. Please let me know if you have questions. I’m looking forward to posting photos from Grandparent’s Day and from last Thursday’s Chinese calligraphy lesson. The kids enjoy sharing their artwork!

PANTRY: Thanks for helping to keep the pantry stocked with healthy snacks and lunch items.

GEOGRAPHY STUDIES: Our Geography Studies began with an overview of the continents of planet Earth. Recently we studied a variety of countries of Africa, learning about capital cities, flags and landmarks. This week we begin to learn about biomes of Africa and the plants and animals that inhabit them.

VALENTINE’S DAY: Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 14. If your child would like to bring cards for their classmates, please bring them in Tuesday morning. The children will weave special, heart-shaped envelopes to hold their cards. A list of the student names is attached so the kids can label cards. Please remember: distributing cards is optional. However, if your child chooses to bring valentine cards, please be sure there is one for every student. Also, this year children are invited to wear pajamas, slippers and robes. We’ll eat popcorn and distribute Valentine cards. A lap-sized stuffie can join the funJ Please be sure PJs are warm and appropriate for school.

House of ChEN 2017 permission form

To complement the Chinese New Year celebration our class will visit Chinese Restaurant, House of Chen, on Franklin Blvd. We’ll enjoy a buffet style lunch that includes vegetarian choices (vegetable chow mien and vegetable fried rice) and Mar Far Chicken. Our trip is scheduled for Thursday, February 9, 2017. The students and their adult supervisors will travel by LTD bus, leaving school at 9:30 and returning by 1:30. At the bus station, we’ll see the Rosa Parks statue as we have been reading about Rosa’s courage and the ways in which she and others helped to end segregation in our country.

The cost for our trip is $6.50 per person. This includes lunch and LTD bus fare. Please complete the attached permission form and return it with cash or a check to Ridgeline Montessori Charter School. If the cost presents a hardship and you would like scholarship information, please call the office (541-681-9662). Adults interested in supervising students, or sponsoring a student, please let us know.
