Polar/Tundra Biome: We are completing our study of the Polar-Tundra Biome. Students have researched plants, animals and people that live in this harsh environment. This week they are presenting information to their classmates.

Next we’ll focus on Forest Biomes, beginning with our very own Temperate Forests. If you have materials or books that support this learning, please consider sharing!

House of Chen: In honor of the upcoming Chinese New Year, we’ll enjoy lunch at House of Chen Chinese Restaurant on Monday, January 28. Our buffet style lunch will include three vegetarian choices and Mar Far Chicken. Students and adult supervisors will travel by LTD bus, leaving school at 9:15 and returning by 1:00. The cost is $7.00 per person. Student scholarships are available. If you would like scholarship information, please call the school office (541-681-9662). Permission forms will be sent home soon.

Host Families Needed – Our Teacher-interns will return to China at the end of the month. The University’s program, Oregon International Program, provides an opportunity for student teachers from China and Taiwan to help in area elementary school classrooms and learn from master teachers. At no cost to schools, interns work in classrooms four days a week, attend classes at the U of O, and live in area homes. We are looking for homestay hosts for student interns from China, Taiwan and Japan from February 15 – June 20, 2013

Homestay situations can include households with one adult or large extended families – many hosts have been couples with children, others have been widowed or retired.

Interns need safe living situations with:
· A private bedroom & healthy food
· Access to public transportation
· Environments promising conversation, friendship, and inclusiveness
Homestay families will receive monthly stipends for room and board:
$500 per student for a single room
$450 per student for a room shared with another OIIP intern
