Rachel's Update 2-28-2020

posted Feb 28, 2020, 1:06 PM by Cynthia Friedman

Hello Room 3 families and welcome to the end of February.  How time flies, especially in a busy classroom!  We have been studying the timeline of humans, focusing on the fundamental needs of all humans regardless of time or culture.  Tying into that, students have also been learning about black history and the qualities of a peacekeeper.  In March we will be diving into Asia and botany studies.  Everywhere we look flowers are bursting forth.  It is already time for all of life to wake up!  Students explore these cycles of nature in a microcosm, leading to the grand understanding that everything is cyclical in nature.  Everything is connected.  This is the fundamental seed of the Montessori Peace curriculum.  Interconnectivity.  Spring is great for exploring these deeper concepts.

Thank you for all the families who volunteer their time to bring something special to the classroom.  I appreciate all that you do for us.

Volunteer opportunities:

1.     We need 30 wipeable placemats (not hard plastic) that can be rolled up into a tube for use during snack and lunch time.  Approximate size: 12 in X 14 in.

2.     30 starter pots and potting soil for planting.

3.     Flower bulbs

4.     Recess equipment: jump ropes, balls, frisbee, etc.

5.     Classroom fidgets (not spinners) for busy hands in the classroom.

Stripes & Polka Dots on Monday - We will be celebrating "Read Across America" focusing on books students can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow readers to see a world or a character that might be different than them. On March 2nd, Ridgeline will be wearing stripes and polka dots to kick off this day of literacy, and Principal Michelle will visit some classrooms to read short stories.
