With our first class presentations over, the students and parents can breathe a collective sigh. Our next presentations are just around the corner and we look at Southeast tribes and the surrounding areas. The last presentations were very informative and I learned many new things.
Our Barnes and Noble skit/event was a huge success. The students that were present did a fantastic job of educating us about the birth, life, and eventual death of a star. I received many positive remarks from both teachers and parents, so your children deserve a nice pat on the back, high five, kudos, puppy, etc.
In geography this week we looked at Alaska, Greenland, and Canada. These Northern Wilderness lessons are intended to teach about the geography of North America and the tundra biome of the far north. My goal is to finish off the week with some functional geography lessons related to the formation of the earth (as a review and follow-up to previous lessons). After the formation lesson we are prepared to learn about volcanoes as part of that process. I always consider going to the lava fields to supplement this area of study but it’s a bit more than I am able to do this time of year. I mention it so that you can consider it on your way to Hoodoo, etc.
Next week and beyond…
Emily and I are preparing our large classroom tipi that will go up in the center of the room as we move into our study of Plains Indians. The students will love this special work area, and I am probably more excited about it than the kids are.
Art work and discussions about Thanksgiving will be our primary focus as we approach the middle of the week and prepare for Stone Soup on Wednesday. Fun will be had by all.
Hope you have a stuffed weekend.
Eric and Emily
