We have been busy learning about the universe and the amazing things contained within it. We also have been considering the incredible gifts we have received from scientists, astrophysicists, and others who have dedicated their life work to finding the answers to questions we all ask. We truly stand on the shoulders of giants. We are still scratching the surface regarding our studies on the universe. We have seen how the Bohr model of atomic structure works, the scientific method, nucleosynthesis (birth and death of stars), and the scientists story of how the universe began. Very cool stuff!
Next week and beyond…
In the coming days we will take a closer look at the other planets in our solar system, the sun, respective sizes of other known stars in the universe (ours is relatively small in comparison), and the 2nd Great Lesson: The Story of The Coming of Life. This includes a lesson on the role of the early oceans and our atmosphere in regards to the beginnings of life. These lessons are based on the story of scientists and they are presented as such.
I have a confirmed date to visit the Science Factory as a class. We will visit on Wednesday September 24th. We will leave in the early AM and return after lunch. I am hoping LTD will allow the entire class to use the bus but lately they have been limiting the number of people in a group. I will keep you updated. I have room for three chaperones. The first three to respond will be the lucky winners. Please be aware that in order to accompany us on any field trip the office needs to do a background check. This is not as bad as it sounds. Please get your paperwork from Kayla at the front office.
Remember that we use inside shoes in our classroom. If you have not yet provided your student with a pair of shoes to use strictly for indoor use, please do so ASAP. Thank you.
The Ridgeline Rising Silent Auction and Block Party is just around the corner (October 11th to be exact)! Each classroom selects a theme for a basket to be included in the silent auction and students are invited to contribute theme related items valued at $10 or less OR donate $10 cash (to be used by volunteers to purchase items for the basket). Our classroom’s basket theme is Outer Space!
Contact Shannon Hoell, our classroom basket organizer or Cynthia if you have any questions.
