Friday, 6/13 Last Day of School, Pancake Day for Eric’s class

This week
With two weeks of school left it’s time to talk about what exciting things are happening to finish the year. On the very last day of school we will have our 12th annual Pancake Breakfast for students and classroom volunteers. I have done this with my class each year and it is a lot of hyper, sticky-sweet fun! I prepare pancakes and the kids eat as many of them as they like. I have the mix, but would be happy to accept syrup and jam and some durable plastic forks. I also provide real whipped cream to put on top for those who feel that their pancake isn’t quite sweet enough. Feel free to send in a special (pre-made) mix if allergies etc. are a problem. If you like to feel like a short order cook, I am open to a few volunteers (1-3). I need folks to take pictures, keep the pancakes moving onto plates and watch out for the minor spills. Let me know if you are interested. On the same day we will walk to Tugman Park (planned) to play off all those carbs!

In the days leading up to this we will view all the class pictures we have taken via slideshow and write in each other’s memory books. Of course, we will be doing all the regular stuff as well.

Next week
In the coming days I will prepare lessons on Gandhi, more on Buddhism, and eventually Confucianism. As always, if you would like to share your interest or expertise on these subjects just let me know.

We did some work with clay earlier in the month and made our own interpretations of yin-yang symbols (Taoism). As long as our pieces seemed to show opposites we considered it a success! We will paint these in the coming days.
