This Week:
We have been busy the past few weeks. We spent some time learning about the Amazon River and the seasonal changes it brings to the river basin. Did you know the river flows for over 4000 miles? To support this lesson we also learned about the hydrosphere, the power of oceans, and the water cycle. Our biome studies have been interesting and there is so much to discover here that we can’t possibly do more than scratch the surface. We learned about primary producers and consumers, secondary consumers, and tertiary consumers. Maybe they can tell you all about it over dinner.

Coming soon:
In the coming weeks we will be looking at the Olmec civilization, more on the Amazon (with a focus on the jungle) and perhaps even have time to make a classroom terrarium. If you happen to have a large glass jar with a lid, please let me know. This is a pretty important part of the process. As we continue or studies in ecology, we will look at the different kinds of soils and eventually erosion.

Valentines Day is coming. If you’re not sweet on this day don’t sweat it. If, however, you want your child to participate it’s easier to prepare cards for every student without using names. Trust me, it’s better this way.

PS: Please remember to keep sick and fatigued children home unless they can participate in the regular class routines. Too many children need to go to the office for breaks and to have temperatures taken. Thank you. The CDC approves this message. Lastly, with the wet and muddy weather, it doesn’t hurt to have a spare pair of pants in the old backpack…
