This week
We had a wonderful New Year celebration thanks to the generous offering from parents.  We had a large selection of goodies, and the students had a fun time picking among the different colors, flavors, and, textures.  There is an old Chinese saying that when you try something new you live an extra 75 days.  Okay, full disclosure: I heard this from someone who is not Chinese so I don’t know if this is really true, but it should be!

I would also like to thank those who prepared rice and those who came into the classroom to help and support the fun.  Emily and I appreciated the support.

Last week we learned about Mesopotamia and the surrounding cultures, inventions from Asia (which are many) and picked new research topics.

Next week
Coming up we will look into ancient Persia, take a cool look at Ice Ages and the Neanderthal, and finally celebrate the end of the New Year by having a traditional Lantern Festival.  I’m hoping to get some Chinese ink blowing in as an art activity as well. Wish me luck!

Valentines Day:  If your child would like to participate in this celebration, please make sure that each student receives the same or like thing, and do not put individual names on the cards.  This makes passing them out very time consuming and frustrating.  If small treats are included the students will be asked to eat the treats at home.
