This week…
This past week we made and ate some yummy latkes in honor of Hanukkah. I love the way the room smells the next day. I almost wanted to do it all over again. We also saw an animated video about the history of Hanukkah. The latest round of presentations is over now. We have learned many things about Southern Europe. We will make new presentation lists for Eastern and Western Europe this week and we will plan on having them ready to share January 7th-9th. I will plan on sending the list home in paper form as well as attaching it to this email. This week we also looked into the Celtic culture. It seems more is learned about this interesting culture every day. They are not the barbarians they are made out to be, and in fact schooled the Romans in many areas.

We took some time to see the Nutcracker in the gym on Wednesday. It was a fine performance with the students paying close attention. Thank you for your donations to offset the cost of the performance.

Next week and beyond…
Next week we will do some Celtic art work (Celtic cross, knots, etc) as well as listening to some music that we generally refer to as Celtic. I doubt that they ever had such music, but the Celts who remain (mostly in Ireland) make some great music that is associated with that culture. We will try to catch up with some lessons that were left out last week, such as volcanoes and possibly algae.

Reminder:
We are now using online ordering for scholastic books. You do not need to send me checks, order forms, or anything else. Just go to:
scholastic.com and order ANY book from any grade level. This is a huge bonus because you are no longer limited by the type and/or level of books. You can search for me by using the easy to use directions or use this code: FFTH3 to save some small effort. Place your order before the end of any month. The class will get points for free books! Shipping is free and will come to the school, where it will be distributed to your student. Thank you and happy shopping :)
