This week Emily and I held on to our snow boots and tried to endure the overwhelming waves of childhood enthusiasm. This was made doubly hard because we were actually trying to get some things done. One would think I would know better by now!

Your student made and wrapped a present for the family that you will find very enjoyable and should fill some of the time you share during the break. It has an educational function as well. We managed to slip in a discussion about volcanoes, namely the ones that are everywhere in Iceland. We followed this up with a practice sheet and an experiment about super-heated gas. We watched a short movie about the Nativity and the celebration that is Christmas. We had to watch the Grinch as well, while all the Who-children nibbled on Who-cookies.

Next week
I hesitate to pack too much into our first week back, so we will start with the history of Medieval Europe. I’m hoping to slip in a discussion about alchemy, too. Who doesn’t like a little glitter? I hope your break is fun, cheerful and safe.
