We have been busy with district assessments this week. Next week we will have more of the same, but most of the work has already been done. The past week we talked more about solar energy and why the earth has frozen poles and a warm equator. We also discussed the sun’s distance from earth, the speed of light, and perpendicular vs. oblique rays. We have said goodbye to our tipi as we leave the plains, but now have a longhouse similar to those used by the Northwest nations as we begin our studies in the NW, SW, and Great Basin areas.
Next week and beyond…
Next week we have our food drive (Joy of Sharing), and maybe we can try some traditional Native American foods in the classroom. We will finish our discussion on solar energy and how the earth holds and dispenses heat. Remember to support your child as they prepare for their last Native American presentation starting the week of January 14th. After this round of presentations we will move our focus to the South American continent for the remainder of the school year.
