This week…
This week we enjoyed fine presentations about many Native American nations. I love listening to these presentations because I learn so much more in an hour than I could if I tried to learn about all the nations by myself. We also looked more closely at the current political boundaries of North America, as well as ancient and current continental drift. We sometimes think that the current layout of continents is permanent, but according to the experts the landmasses have always been very dynamic and never stopped moving. Along with continental drift we discussed volcanoes and their role in pushing the continents apart.

Next week and beyond…
There is no school on Monday. The permission slip for our two field-trips is due by Tuesday the 13th. Please make sure we receive the slips by that date. A copy of the slip is below. If you would like to chaperone for either trip just let me know.

The annual Book Fair will be held at Barnes and Noble again, and our class has some time

(at 6pm) to share some of the Native American presentations to the gathered school body. I have helped the students understand that if they wish to share their work they will need to be concise. There will not be time for the usual questions and comments.

In the coming days we will begin to look at the Plains Indians and choose a new nation/tribe to research.

Eric and Adriene

Hult Center and UO History Museum Field Trip Permission

Eric and Adrienne’s Class will be attending the Hult Center and the UO Museum of Natural History the week of November 12th.

The Hult Center trip will be on Wednesday the 14th, and the UO trip will be on Friday the 16th. This permission slip is for both trips.

Hult Center (14th): We will leave school at 8:50 to catch the LTD bus to the Downtown Station and walk to the Hult from there. The Hult performance called The Orchestra Sings will begin at 10:15 and ends at 11:00. After the performance we will walk back to the bus station and return to school by 11:55. There is a $5 fee for this presentation. Bus fair is covered. We will eat lunch at school. I would like up to two chaperones for this trip.

UOMNH (16th) will be on Friday and a school bus will pick us up at Ridgeline at 9:00 and drive us to the museum. We will take the same school bus back in time for lunch at school. There is no fee for this trip thanks to generous donations to the UO museum for outreach programs. I would like two or more chaperones for this trip as well.

Total cost for both of these wonderful trips is only $5.00

Additional information: Please dress for the weather. No open-toed shoes or sandals.

Deadline: To be eligible to go, signed permission forms must be turned in by Tuesday the 13th!
