Welcome to 2016! I hope you had a nice break with your child/children. Emily and I appreciated the gifts of the season you shared and we thank you for your generosity and kindness.
The students have done well as we jumped right back into the swing of things this week. An important activity was choosing the next Native American tribes to research. The Plains Indians can be closely related, with some groups belonging to larger confederacies (Sioux) just like we discovered with the Algonquin’s in the northeast. Some even have sub-groups within the larger confederacy. It can be a bit confusing but we will learn a lot through this research. This is due on January 25th.
Along with our Native American studies we learned about the carbon cycle. Students recreated the cycle in a hand drawing as well as filling in the blanks of a worksheet based on the lesson to make sure there was understanding. The students did quite well.
Next week and beyond…
In the coming days we will look at the major rivers and lakes of rivers of North America and represent them on maps we create. We will also learn about the nitrogen cycle as part of our functional geography studies. Finally will discuss caring as part of our Peaceful Character Studies.
