This week…
We jumped right back into the swing of things this week. One of the activities we are doing is writing thank you letters for gifts we may have received during the holidays. I have given the students a general outline they can follow, and I will be using the same outline as I write thank you notes along with them.

We also learned about simple machines such as the inclined plane, pulleys, levers, and wheels. Interestingly, many of these simple machines are also in our own physical make-up.

As part of our zoology studies we looked at several African birds in their native habitat. There were so many colors, shapes, and sizes that I felt rather boring by comparison.

Next week and beyond…
First up next week are the presentations scheduled Monday through Wednesday. Please help your student feel prepared by listening to them practice their presentation. We will also learn about the Egyptians and the building of the pyramids. This lesson addresses Africa as well as revisiting the use of simple machines like the inclined plane.

Next week we will be taking the winter benchmark assessments, which will take several days to complete.

Coming up will be a visit by Zany Zoo so that we can see some of the small mammals and reptiles of Africa up close and personalJ
