This week we welcome fall into the classroom, and I for one am grateful for the rain and cooler weather. Last night we had our parent meeting where we talked about what to expect in the coming school year, fieldtrips, curriculum, etc. Looking out at your faces I felt assured and positive regarding the months ahead. Thank you to all who were able to attend.
Our fieldtrip to the Science Factory was fun and we didn’t loose a single student! A heart-felt thank you goes out to Ami, Alicia, Sarib, Robert, Tranee’ and the hosts at the Science Factory. We can’t do these things without your support!
In the classroom we learned about globes and the difficulty in representing something round on something flat (maps). We also learned about the Clock of Eras, which described the eras of the earth as if the passage of time was represented on the face of a clock. This makes it a bit easier to understand for the students.
Next week and beyond…
Coming up we will learn about the 3rd Great Lesson: The Story of Humans. Along with this we learn about the all-important human endeavor of noting the passage of time. This is a good time to discuss the Fundamental Needs of Humans and some more talk about how we divide the world into parts for exploration (hemispheres, latitude-longitude, cardinal directions).
Please remember that for the vision screening on Friday students who wear glasses should bring them.
The Ridgeline Rising Silent Auction and Block Party is just around the corner (October 11th to be exact)! Each classroom selects a theme for a basket to be included in the silent auction and students are invited to contribute theme related items valued at $10 or less OR donate $10 cash (to be used by volunteers to purchase items for the basket). Our classroom’s basket theme is Outer Space!
Contact Shannon Hoell, our classroom basket organizer or Cynthia if you have any questions.
