NEW NEWS-

Holiday Market Sale - Ridgeline will have a table in the Holiday Hall at the Holiday Market at the Fairgrounds this weekend, December 13th and 14th 10am-6pm. Stop by, shop, and say hi to the volunteers. Thank you to all our amazing crafty families who made and donated the items we are selling!

Parent's Day Out - Enjoy an afternoon of shopping or lunch while your child(ren) have fun at the Middle School's Parents Day Out, Saturday, December 13th 11am-2pm. $10 per child, lunch included. Crafts and games.

Joy of Sharing - Ridgeline's third annual Joy of Sharing is next week, December 15th-19th. Please join us in the spirit of giving. Students have the option of participating in activities that involve giving to others. The activities will be done at home and brought in throughout the week. (See the calendar above for details.) We will be collecting non-perishable food, gift type items, frozen turkeys and hams, etc. for food baskets that will go to nine families in the Ridgeline Community. We appreciate your kindness in making these baskets special for our families.

Compost Project - Rosie Sweetman (SGP Special Projects Coordinator) and Helen Liu are working on improving our composting efforts. They would like to have 2-3 volunteers help turn compost, move a couple of compost bins and physically improve the compost area at the top of the garden next week. If there are enough people, they estimate the job can be done before it gets dark at 5pm. Possible dates and times in order of preference (depending on weather): Tuesday Dec. 16 at 3:15 Thursday Dec. 18 at 3:15 or Monday Dec, 15 at 3:15 Please reply to this email if you are able to help. Thank you!

8:15am Reminder- Here is your opportunity to start an early New Year's Resolution - remember that the doors open at 8:15am! As we get farther into the fall and these cold dark mornings, the number of tardy students has increased to staggering proportions! Students who are late for class not only miss out on time to transition into the classroom community and socialize with their peers, they also miss out on important classroom information given in morning meetings. Please make every effort to get your child(ren) to school on time. Anyone arriving after 8:30am must report to the office for a tardy slip. The slip lets the classroom know that the office has recorded the student as arriving so he/she will get credit for having been at school that day.

Breakfast supervision volunteer - We are looking for a volunteer to come in from 8:00am-8:30am to supervise students eating breakfast. This volunteer position will require someone with a strong personality to take command to ensure everyone has a safe calm breakfast experience. This is a great way to get your volunteer time in small increments. Volunteer every morning or once per week. Anyone interested in helping please contact Cindy Bass.

Volunteer Hours - Thank you to all our families who have put in so many volunteer hours this fall. Rolf Genz, our volunteer tally man, reports that so far this year we have logged 1317.75 hours. If you have volunteered but not recorded your hours, please remember to do so! You may log them on the website or in your family folder in the file cabinet in the office. Volunteer hours help Ridgeline when we apply for grants as it shows how much amazing community support we have!

Direct Donation Drive - Thank you to everyone who has donated to the Direct Donation Drive we really appreciate it! Even though the drive is officially over, we are still a long way from our goal of $14,000 and we encourage you to give at any point throughout the school year. So far we have received $7366.00 and another $898 in pledges for a total of 48264.00. 57% of our families have donated. Remember your donation is tax deductible.

Direct Donation Drive Raffle- Congratulations to Catia Juliana, the Love family and Carmen Coleman who won last week's Bijou movie theatre tickets!

Budget Committee - It is time once again to work on the three year budget projection which is due to the district January 30th. There will be approx. four meetings between now and then of the budget committee. The first budget meeting is Monday, December 15th 2-3pm. Anyone interested in participating please contact Chrystell at ridgeline@4j.lane.edu.

Dangerous Parking Habits - People have been slipping into the dangerous habit of parking their vehicles in designated no parking areas during drop off and pick up times. A couple of years ago, the City of Eugene painted stretches of curb that extend from the intersections of Lincoln and 27th and Lincoln and 28th with bright yellow paint, thereby designating them as “no parking” areas. When vehicles are parked in these yellow zones, even momentarily, they cut off the visual of children emerging into the street at these intersections. Some parents have recently observed some “near misses” when children stepped into the intersections causing drivers to stop suddenly or observing that they speed right through, oblivious to the potential for tragedy. Please note the color of the curb before you park your car and if it is yellow, please know that it is that way, not to inconvenience you, but to protect our most precious resource – your children. OH! And, yes, it would help the situation immensely to have a few volunteer crossing guards as well.

CONTINUING NEWS -
